Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer Intern
Location: Gaithersburg, MD, US, 20878
Job Function: Operations – Engineering
Job Type: Temporary Full Time
Primary Responsibilities:
The Manufacturing Engineer Intern will play a crucial role in driving the Continuous Improvement (CI) Program and providing direction and leadership for Quality Management within the site operations. Key responsibilities include:
• Coordinating all aspects of the company’s Quality Assurance program, encompassing supplier quality management, customer/field quality issues, and Production Quality management.
• Driving the Continuous Improvement program by developing a Lean culture within the organization. This involves administering the CI program, training and coaching employees, and facilitating Kaizen events throughout the organization.
• Establishing plans, policies, and procedures at all levels to ensure that the Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement programs meet or exceed internal and external customers’ needs and expectations.
• Championing the lean toolbox and actively driving a Lean System.
Role and Specific Responsibilities:
• Develop standard work benchmarks and perform line balancing to optimize productivity.
• Determine labor and machine time standards to facilitate accurate resource planning and fulfill customer requirements.
• Lead and coordinate ergonomic improvement efforts.
• Collaborate with a cross-functional team to support the ISO 9001 QMS Program and the Engineering Change Management Process.
• Lead Value Stream Mappings (VSMs) and process designs for production processes.
• Support productivity improvement initiatives, including analyzing, implementing, and eliminating the 7+1 wastes within manufacturing processes.
Required Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled in a relevant Engineering degree program at an accredited university. Industrial, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain majors are typically a good fit, but similar majors will also be considered.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety protocols, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and blueprints.
• Strong understanding of lean principles, including lean/flow throughputs, Value Stream Mappings (VSMs), Just-In-Time (JIT), Kaizen, Problem Solving, Six Sigma, 5S methodology, and Visual Management.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
• Beginner to intermediate level knowledge of ERP Systems, preferably SAP.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical problem-solving skills.
• Advanced understanding of Microsoft Outlook and Office Suite.
Compensation:
The hourly rate for this position is $24-$28, depending on experience.
