Management Trainee | Southeastern Freight Lines
The Tone:
This is an intensive, entry-level training position at Southeastern Freight Lines, specifically designed to cultivate future leaders within the company’s operations. Southeastern Freight Lines operates at the core of the transportation industry, focusing on efficient cross-dock operations and comprehensive freight delivery. This role is fundamental to the organization as it prepares successful candidates for their initial supervisory and leadership roles in operations, ensuring the continuity of effective management and operational excellence across various facilities. The program emphasizes hands-on learning and professional development to build essential industry knowledge and communication skills.
The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Third Shift
• Location: In-person, Relocation to another facility is required at the completion of the program.
• Pay: $50,000–$60,000 yearly (pay may vary based on location, experience, and qualifications)
• Mission: To acquire a comprehensive understanding of transportation industry principles, efficient cross-dock operations, effective leadership communication, and crucial relationship-building skills to prepare for a first leadership role.
• Tech Stack: Basic computer skills are necessary for daily program completion and operational tasks.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Participate in the program: Engage in an intensive 16-week Operations Management Trainee Program, requiring guided and independent study under the direction of a mentor.
• Learn core principles: Absorb the basic principles of the transportation industry, with a strong focus on efficient cross-dock operations.
• Develop leadership skills: Cultivate effective leadership communication and robust relationship-building skills essential for a supervisory role.
• Interface with associates: Collaborate daily with appropriate Support Center and Service Center associates to complete various aspects of the training program.
• Gain field insight: Accompany Account Managers during customer sales calls and observe drivers on local delivery routes to garner an understanding of the freight delivery process.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Candidates are required to hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Transportation or Logistics. This is an entry-level position within the operations management career path.
• Experience: Alternatively to a Bachelor’s Degree, candidates may qualify with at least two years of related work experience in a relevant field within the transportation or logistics industry.
• Skills: Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication abilities, including effective listening skills; proficiency in basic computer operations; a very strong work ethic crucial for a dynamic environment; the capacity to maintain a professional demeanor and appearance at all times; an acceptable driving history that aligns with company standards; and a readiness to relocate to another facility upon completion of the trainee program for your initial leadership role.
