About the Job: Management Trainee Program

CED’s Management Training program offers a unique opportunity for sales-minded individuals to develop into future leaders of the company. This program is designed to immerse trainees in every aspect of CED’s multi-million-dollar wholesale electrical supply business, with the ultimate goal of preparing them to manage their own location.

Program Overview

This comprehensive on-the-job training program typically spans 2-3 years, providing hands-on experience across various critical business functions. Throughout the program, trainees will gain invaluable insights and skills through structured rotations and dedicated educational sessions.

Training Rotations

Trainees will rotate through the following key areas to develop a holistic understanding of the business:

  • Warehouse Operations: Learn inventory management, logistics, and material handling.
  • Counter Sales: Develop direct customer service and sales skills.
  • Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable: Understand financial transactions and cash flow management.
  • Financial Statements: Gain proficiency in analyzing and interpreting business financial data.
  • Purchasing: Learn procurement processes and vendor relations.
  • Account Management: Develop skills in building and maintaining customer relationships.
  • Project Management: Understand how to plan, execute, and close projects efficiently.
  • Inventory Management: Master strategies for optimizing stock levels and turns.
  • Business Development: Explore strategies for growing market share and identifying new opportunities.

Educational Components

In addition to practical rotations, trainees will participate in multiple focused sessions covering:

  • Electrical products and industry specifics.
  • Advanced sales techniques and strategies.
  • Effective management and leadership principles.

This program emphasizes real on-the-job training complemented by online resources related to electrical systems, sales, and management. No prior industry experience is necessary, making it an excellent opportunity for motivated individuals to enter a new field.

The successful candidate for this program will possess:

  • Outstanding communication skills (both written and spoken).
  • Geographical flexibility, with a willingness to relocate during and after the program.
  • A proactive attitude, thriving in a fast-paced, multi-faceted industry environment.
  • A strong sales mindset and eagerness to learn.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Bachelor’s Degree is preferred; however, related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Current, valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Authorization to work in the United States (CED does not sponsor work authorization now or in the future).
  • Ability and willingness to relocate during and upon completion of the program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous sales or customer service experience is a plus.

Working Conditions

Working conditions will vary significantly based on the trainee’s current segment of the program, encompassing a dynamic mix of environments:

  • Warehouse Environment: May involve lifting, sorting, standing for extended periods, and exposure to extreme heat/cold conditions.
  • Office Environment: May include sitting for extended periods while working on administrative and financial tasks.
  • External Environments: Involves travel to customer sites or other CED locations.
  • Travel: Various segments will require both car and air travel.

Essential Job Functions

  • Actively learning and mastering all aspects of the CED business model.
  • Attending classes and training sessions in various locations as required.
  • Communicating effectively, both written and spoken, in English.
