Program Overview:

The Sherwin-Williams Management & Sales Internship is a paid, 10-12-week summer program designed to provide comprehensive, hands-on experience within our retail stores. Interns will gain invaluable insight into management, sales, and store operations, along with practical business-to-business (B2B) and retail customer experiences. This program offers a unique learning journey that includes:

  • Direct, practical business-to-business and retail experience in a paint store environment.
  • Insight into a career in outside sales through travel with a Sales Representative.
  • Structured time with the management team for direct mentorship.
  • Completion of a team-based project addressing critical business issues, with support from leadership.

The intern experience is structured to provide professional-level learning in the following critical business areas:

  • Sales
  • Marketing/Promotions
  • Merchandising
  • Customer Relationship Management
  • Business Management

Career Progression:

Following successful completion of the internship program, highly encouraged interns are to apply to the Management & Sales Training Program (“MTP”) to further advance their careers with Sherwin-Williams.

Important Note: College graduates are not eligible for this internship program but are encouraged to apply directly to the Management and Sales Training Program (“MTP”).

Background Check Statement:

Key Responsibilities:

As an intern, you will be involved in a diverse range of responsibilities crucial to store operations and customer satisfaction:

  • Customer Service: Provide friendly, professional assistance to customers both in-store and over the phone.
  • Sales Support: Maintain product displays, assist customers with product recommendations, and actively contribute to sales efforts.
  • Product Knowledge: Develop a comprehensive understanding of merchandise to effectively answer customer questions and ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Inventory & Merchandising: Efficiently restock shelves and support visual merchandising initiatives to enhance store presentation.
  • Store Operations: Assist with transactions, product preparation (including mixing paint), and general store upkeep.
  • Logistics Support: Aid in unloading deliveries and organizing stockrooms to maintain an efficient supply chain.
  • Training & Compliance: Attend all required training sessions and consistently adhere to store policies and procedures.
  • Team Collaboration: Actively support teammates and effectively resolve basic customer concerns.
  • Project Responsibility: Contribute to a team-based project designed to address a real business challenge, providing practical problem-solving experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Candidates must meet the following essential criteria to be considered for the internship:

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future.
  • Must be enrolled in a college or university at the time of the internship or co-op program.
  • Must be able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to retrieve material from shelves and floor stacks and lift and carry up to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 70 lbs. on occasion.
  • Must be willing to work all scheduled hours, which may include evenings and weekends, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will also possess some or all of the following preferred qualifications:

  • Have a valid, unrestricted Driver’s License.
  • Possess at least one (1) year of experience working in a delivery, retail, or customer service position.
  • Have previous experience working in a team-oriented setting (e.g., work experience, extracurricular activities, military service).
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate in more than one language.
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate in Spanish.
  • Be a rising or current Junior or Senior in college or university at the start of the internship program.
