Job Title: Management & Sales Internship

Program Type: Paid, 10-12-week Summer Program

Program Overview:

The Sherwin-Williams Management & Sales Internship is a paid, hands-on, 10-12-week summer program designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience within our retail stores. Interns will gain valuable insight into management, sales, and store operations, along with opportunities to deliver meaningful customer experiences.

This program offers practical business-to-business (B2B) and retail experience in a paint store setting. You will gain exposure to a career in outside sales by traveling with a Sales Representative and spending structured time with your management team. A key component of the internship is a team-based project addressing critical business issues, completed alongside peers with leadership support.

Following successful completion of the program, interns are highly encouraged to apply to the Management & Sales Training Program (“MTP”) to further grow their career with Sherwin-Williams.

Note: College graduates are not eligible for this internship program but are encouraged to apply directly to the Management and Sales Training Program (“MTP”).

Nature of the Role:

Job duties involve frequent contact with customers, which may include minors. Interns will have access to cash and other payment methods, electronic equipment, personal information, store merchandise, and other items of value, with supervision that may vary. Therefore, a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business, its operations, reputation, and the safety of customers, staff, employees, vendors, contractors, and the general public.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service: Provide friendly and professional assistance to customers both in-store and over the phone, ensuring a welcoming environment and a positive customer experience.
  • Sales Support: Maintain product displays and actively assist customers by recommending items that meet their specific needs, thereby contributing to overall sales goals.
  • Product Knowledge: Develop a strong understanding of store merchandise to accurately answer customer inquiries and support inventory accuracy.
  • Inventory & Merchandising: Restock shelves, assist with inventory management processes, and contribute to effective visual merchandising efforts within the store.
  • Store Operations: Support daily store functions including point-of-sale transactions, product preparation/mixing (paint tinting), and general store maintenance to ensure a clean and organized environment.
  • Logistics Support: Assist with unloading deliveries, organizing stockrooms, and contributing to the efficient flow of inventory.
  • Training & Compliance: Actively participate in all required training sessions and strictly adhere to all store policies, including safety protocols, HR guidelines, and loss prevention procedures.
  • Team Collaboration: Support team members in resolving basic customer concerns and efficiently completing shared tasks and responsibilities.
  • Project Responsibility: Collaborate with fellow interns on a team-based project that addresses a real business challenge or store initiative. This includes contributing ideas, sharing responsibilities, and presenting outcomes, demonstrating teamwork, problem-solving, and project management skills.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future.
  • Must be enrolled in a college or university at the time of the internship or co-op program.
  • Must be able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to retrieve material from shelves and floor stacks and lift and carry up to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 70 lbs. on occasion.
  • Must be willing to work all scheduled hours, which may include evenings and weekends, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid, unrestricted Driver’s License.
  • At least one (1) year of experience working in a delivery, retail, or customer service position.
  • Previous experience working in a team-oriented setting, including work experience, extracurricular activities, military service, etc.
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate in more than one language.
  • Specifically, ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate in Spanish.
  • Be a rising or current Junior or Senior in college or university at the start of the internship program.
