M&A Analyst | The AES Corporation

The Tone:
This is a full-time M&A Analyst role at The AES Corporation, located in Salt Lake City (UT), Louisville (CO), Houston, NYC, or any other state within the US where AES has an office. The AES Corporation is the largest US-based global power company, actively shaping a sustainable future by providing electricity to millions worldwide and leading in renewable energy sales to corporations. This role is vital for driving the company’s expansion in clean energy through strategic project and platform acquisition and divestiture efforts.

• Team: Reports to the Director, M&A; part of a team leading project & platform acquisition and divestiture efforts in the US.
• Mission: Lead project & platform acquisition and divestiture efforts in the US for utility-scale wind, solar, and battery storage.
• Tech Stack: Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint

What You’ll Actually Do
• Transaction Coordination: Assist M&A deal leads with work streams for live transactions, including using confidential information memoranda, coordinating the Q&A process, and managing due diligence with internal subject matter experts and external consultants.
• Market Analysis: Conduct market research using AES data subscriptions and public sources to inform business development efforts, then prepare and deliver presentations and reports to communicate findings and recommendations to internal teams.
• Valuation Review: Collaborate closely with AES Valuation and Investment teams to review valuation models, including DCF and earnings models, to assess individual projects or businesses.
• Impact Assessment: Analyze and compare prospective M&A transactions and investments under the direction of transaction leaders, including their strategic and financial impacts and risks.
• Process Development: Develop and maintain internal tools and processes for tracking all active, inactive, and closed M&A deal activities.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree in an analytical or renewable energy subject area.
• Experience: Demonstrated analytical experience and intellectual curiosity; understanding of the key value drivers and risks of Clean Energy transactions (wind, solar, battery storage).
• Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate complex matters in a concise manner to diverse team members; adept at Excel financial modeling; proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
• Bonus: Familiarity with regional electricity markets in US is a plus.
