Docketing Technician (Office Automation) | United States Attorneys’​ Offices

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at United States Attorneys’ Offices, located in Cleveland/Akron or Toledo, Ohio. The United States Attorneys’ Offices serve as the chief federal law enforcement officers in their respective federal judicial districts. This position plays a crucial role in supporting legal operations by meticulously managing case information and developing essential legal reports. This role ensures the accurate and efficient functioning of computerized case tracking and record-keeping systems for the Northern District of Ohio.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Data Management: Accurately maintain and update legal data within automated docketing databases and systems.
• Reporting: Generate various program and statistical reports, including tables, graphs, and charts, for legal documents or presentations.
• Case Processing: Process incoming case files and documents, recording status changes and closing cases as directed.
• Document Production: Create a variety of written legal documents and materials using a wide range of office automation applications.
• Record Review: Review recurring reports and update databases to ensure the completeness and accuracy of legal records.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early Career. To qualify at the GS-05 level, candidates need four years of post-high school education or one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level. Specialized experience involves performing clerical/administrative duties in an office, including reviewing documents for accuracy, managing mail, responding to inquiries, typing, maintaining files, and performing data entry in automated systems.
• Experience: For the GS-06 level, one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level is required. This includes utilizing electronic case management systems and office automation programs for docketing and record-keeping, determining legal actions for cases, inputting/updating/extracting legal data, researching legal sources, and producing legal reports and documents. For the GS-07 level, one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level is required, encompassing comprehensive knowledge of legal terms and administrative/legal hearing practices, performing complex data entry in legal tracking systems, identifying errors using legal terminology, recommending procedure revisions for case management, assisting with employee training, and generating reports from databases.
• Skills: Typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute with three or fewer errors based on a 5-minute sample. Expertise in maintaining, updating, and extracting data from automated docketing and case tracking systems. Proficient use of various office automation applications to produce diverse written documents, reports, tables, graphs, and charts. Ability to review and process legal documents, understand status changes, and apply legal terminology in record-keeping within a legal environment.
