Department Description (U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform – ILR):
The U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform (ILR) focuses on reducing excessive frivolous litigation and restoring fairness and balance to the nation’s civil justice system. This is pursued through a combination of legislative, judicial, and educational activities at national, local, and international levels.

About the Job

Job Title: Legal Intern

Department: U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform (ILR)

Internship Period:
• Scheduled to run from Monday, September 15, 2025, through Friday, November 21, 2025.

Schedule & Location:
• This is a part-time internship, with candidates expected to work up to 20 hours per week.
• Interns will work a hybrid schedule, requiring them to be in the office at least two days a week at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce headquarters in downtown Washington, D.C.
Fully remote applicants will not be considered.

Compensation:
• Interns are paid $20.00 per hour.
• Students may also receive academic credit if they meet their school’s criteria.

Position Overview:
• Legal interns will assist ILR in implementing federal and state programs.
• Key tasks include legislative and legal research, memo writing, and updating fundraising materials.

Responsibilities:
• Conduct specific issue-related research.
• Write analytical memos.
Participate in ILR member task force calls, meetings, and other important events.
Attend/watch and report on congressional hearings and events.

Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree and currently pursuing a Juris Doctorate (JD).
Skills:
Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks in a changing environment.
Excellent interpersonal and follow-up skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet, and Outlook.

Work Authorization:
• This internship requires U.S. work authorization.
• It is open to candidates holding Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and/or Optional Practical Training (OPT).
