Legal Administrative Specialist | United States Attorneys’​ Offices

What You’ll Actually Do
• Discovery Management: Organize and manage criminal discovery materials for assigned cases.
• Administrative Support: Provide case-related administrative support to attorneys and prepare legal/administrative documents for criminal investigations, prosecutions, appeals, and post-conviction litigation.
• Exhibit Preparation: Prepare master trial exhibits in both electronic and hard copy formats, and collaborate with Automated Litigation Support to prepare audio/video for courtroom presentations.
• Document Editing: Proofread and provide basic editing assistance for legal documents, including appellate briefs, motion responses, search warrant affidavits, and material witness warrants.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Eligibility at the GS-11 level requires either a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education (e.g., LL.M., if related to Criminal Justice or Law). Alternatively, one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in the Federal service or private sector is acceptable, involving legal automation and litigation support.
• Experience: One full year of specialized experience at the GS-9 level or equivalent, which includes providing technical advice on legal automation requirements, organizing and managing case-specific discovery, analyzing complex litigation support needs, using automated litigation support technology (such as Eclipse and Relativity) for organizing information, preparing trial presentations, and evidence, researching and summarizing legal precedents, or preparing and maintaining trial-related documents.
• Skills: Technical advice on legal automation requirements, criminal discovery materials management, analysis of complex litigation support requirements, proficiency in automated litigation support technology (Eclipse, Relativity), legal research and analysis, legal document preparation and editing.
