Lead Accountant – Strategy & Initiatives | Venteon

The Tone:
This is a full-time, hybrid role with Venteon’s client, an industry leader and employer of choice, with headquarters in the Metro Detroit area. The company builds various traditional and non-traditional business opportunities. This position is a critical contributor to the company’s overall financial success, focusing on strategic initiatives and complex accounting matters. The role serves as an accounting subject matter expert, leading projects and influencing decisions across departments.

• Mission: Lead the project management and accounting support for various strategic business opportunities, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Project Leadership: Lead the evaluation of accounting impacts for projects around acquisitions, competitive bidding, and greenfield development, ensuring industry and regulatory compliance.
• Technical Accounting: Research and benchmark complex accounting matters, including revenue recognition, lease and acquisition accounting, and joint venture structuring, preparing technical accounting memos.
• Process Improvement: Support the review, development, and implementation of updated processes, procedures, and accounting policies specific to special projects and strategic initiatives.
• Risk Management: Lead the identification of accounting risks and potential threats to projects, proactively communicating timelines and ensuring adherence to internal controls.
• Relationship Building: Build and maintain high-trust relationships, interacting with business leaders, partners, customers, third-party consultants, and stakeholders to influence decisions.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, or relevant equivalent experience and/or education, with an increasing level of responsibility.
• Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of experience in Accounting, Public Accounting, or Project Accounting.
• Skills: Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting and regulatory compliance, outstanding project management and organizational skills, and excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Bonus: CPA preferred.
