Legal Intern | International Maritime Group | PLLC

The Tone:
This is a legal internship at International Maritime Group | PLLC, a specialized law firm focused on maritime and international trade law. This role is crucial for providing comprehensive support to the litigation team, ensuring the efficient preparation of legal documents and effective client communication. The intern will play a key part in maintaining organized case files and contributing to the firm’s operational excellence.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Client Onboarding & File Management: Streamline client engagement by preparing letters and fee agreements, assisting with conflict checks, and diligently organizing client files and contacts.
• Legal Document Production: Ensure accuracy and compliance of legal filings by preparing, proofreading, cite-checking, formatting, and assembling complex legal documents including tables of contents and authorities.
• Information Synthesis & Research: Provide critical support by reviewing factual and technical information, conducting legal research, and generating concise notes, memoranda, summaries, and visual aids.
• Case Document Drafting: Support litigation efforts by drafting foundational case documents, proposed orders, cover letters, FOIA requests, and pro hac vice applications under attorney supervision.
• Stakeholder Communication: Facilitate effective communication with courts, clients, experts, and opposing counsel, while also keeping the litigation team and public-facing platforms updated on case developments.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Current law student, recent law school graduate, or member of the Bar, with a strong foundation in legal principles and practice.
• Experience: Demonstrated proficiency with Adobe, the full Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel), Westlaw for legal research, and a basic understanding of Microsoft Teams and SharePoint for case management.
• Skills: Exceptional analytical, legal writing, communication, and organizational skills, coupled with the ability to manage multiple assignments, set priorities, meet deadlines, and perform calmly under pressure.
• Bonus: A genuine interest in and knowledge of maritime or international trade law issues, alongside a strong sense of humor and emotional intelligence.
