What You’ll Actually Do
• Advising: Interview and advise victims and witnesses regarding prospective criminal or civil actions.
• Legal Analysis: Study, interpret, and apply laws, court decisions, and legal authorities for case prosecution, defense, or litigation.
• Document Preparation: Prepare legal pleadings such as complaints, answers, demurrers, discovery, and judgments.
• Case Support: Assist with a variety of cases, which may include misdemeanor cases and the presentation of preliminary hearings.
• Professional Development: Actively seek continuing legal education and training through research, observation, and counsel from senior attorneys.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level Law Clerk, requiring current enrollment in law school or recent graduation, eligible for the California State Bar Exam, or awaiting results. Completion of the California State Bar Exam is required upon appointment. Core domain knowledge in criminal, constitutional, and administrative law.
• Experience: Demonstrated understanding of judicial procedures, rules of evidence, and trial procedures through coursework or prior legal support roles.
• Skills: Ability to interpret and apply laws and legal authorities; clearly and logically present statements of law, facts, and arguments in written and oral form; accurately perform legal research; prepare legal documents such as opinions, pleadings, and briefs; effectively interview witnesses and clients.
