NJ Staff Counsel Law Clerk | Selective Insurance

The Tone:
This is a part-time Law Clerk position at Selective Insurance, located in Roseland, NJ or Hamilton, NJ, with hybrid work options. What You’ll Actually Do
• Legal Research: Assist in conducting legal research and preparing written legal documents.
• Pleading Drafting: Draft legal pleadings, including various motions and briefs.
• Case Analysis: Review and analyze case files, organize case materials, and assist in evaluating liability and exposure.
• Document Management: Assemble and arrange policies, documents, manuals, presentations, and printed materials, ensuring their quality and accuracy.
• Client Interaction: Communicate effectively, complete transactions, and resolve problems while providing helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable customer service on the phone or online.

The Must-Haves
• Background: This role requires that the candidate be currently attending law school. It is specifically designed for a law student seeking practical legal experience during the 2026–2027 academic year.
• Experience: While specific legal experience is not mandated, general office work experience is preferred. This includes experience managing administrative tasks and demonstrating the ability to prioritize work effectively and meet deadlines.
• Skills: Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work efficiently by maintaining focus on assigned tasks and completing work according to schedule. A strong commitment to producing quality work with meticulous attention to detail is essential. The ability to collaborate effectively and work constructively with others in a team environment is also required. Furthermore, basic proficiency in MS Office applications, specifically Word, Outlook, and Excel, is necessary for this role.
• Bonus: A preferred qualification includes 2-4 years of general office work, particularly encompassing experience in prioritizing multiple tasks and successfully meeting deadlines.
