Land Intern | Stanley Martin Homes
The Tone:
This is a Land Intern position at Stanley Martin Homes, an in-person role that offers a foundational experience in the critical early stages of new home construction. Stanley Martin Homes, established in 1966 and headquartered in Reston, VA, is recognized as one of the largest 25 homebuilders in the United States, having successfully built over 25,000 homes. What You’ll Actually Do
• Site Oversight: Participate in field oversight activities related to site development and lot delivery, working alongside civil contractors, consultants, and trade partners to monitor project progress and construction activities.
• Regulatory Coordination: Coordinate with local inspectors, municipal representatives, and jurisdictional staff throughout the development process, gaining familiarity with permitting requirements, compliance procedures, and site safety protocols.
• Project Execution: Develop an understanding of development schedules, construction sequencing, and project execution, participating in onsite meetings related to safety, contractor coordination, and project execution.
• Financial Assistance: Assist with land development budget tracking and cost management, collaborating with internal departments and cross-functional teams throughout the development process.
• Land Acquisition Support: Conduct market research and feasibility studies for potential land acquisitions, support the team in analyzing zoning and regulatory requirements, and participate in due diligence activities.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree with a successful academic record, demonstrating readiness to enter the field, and approaching successful graduation within one year.
• Experience: No specific prior professional experience is explicitly required for this internship role, focusing instead on academic progress and foundational skills.
• Skills: Strong proficiency in essential software including MS Office, MS Teams, and particularly MS Excel. This is complemented by excellent organizational capabilities, strong communication skills (both written and verbal), robust analytical skills, and a keen attention to detail.
