About Company:

The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law is a nonpartisan law and policy institute that seeks to improve the systems of democracy and justice in the United States. They work to hold political institutions and laws accountable to the ideals of democracy and equal justice for all. Their work spans voting rights, campaign finance reform, ending mass incarceration, and preserving Constitutional protections in national security policies. It functions as a think-tank, advocacy group, and communications hub, using rigorous research to craft innovative policies and fight for them in various arenas.

Job Description:

The Brennan Center for Justice is seeking interns to provide administrative and clerical support to staff in their Justice Program, based in the New York City office.

Responsibilities:

• General administrative, research, and clerical tasks: filing, photocopying, answering phones, shipping/mailing, coordinating meetings, drafting routine correspondence, and covering the reception desk.
• Attending and observing substantive meetings, events, and conversations on program work.
• Specific responsibilities related to the Justice Program:
• Tracking developments in criminal justice.
• Building lists of key stakeholders.
• Conducting background research.
• Assisting with report research, editing, and rollout.
• Providing administrative support.

• Independent self-starter
• Detail-oriented
• Energetic
• Punctual
• Highly organized
• Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills
• Passion for the Brennan Center’s issues
• Experience with Windows, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word (required)
• Salesforce experience (very helpful)
• Experience with data or statistical analysis (helpful, but not necessary)
• Open to evolving responsibilities
• Current undergraduate student

Additional Details:

• Hours: Approximately 10-20 hours per week
• Pay: $17.50 per hour
• Duration: September – December 2025
• Application Deadline: July 18, 2025
• Internship is in-person at the New York City office.
• The Brennan Center will follow the rules of your school regarding internships. Therefore, if a school doesn’t allow you to do a paid internship for some reason (i.e., receiving credit, etc.), then your internship will not be paid.
