Junior Software Engineer | Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL)

The Tone:
This is an early career position at Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL), located in North Logan, UT. SDL’s C4ISR Systems Division delivers mission-critical solutions in cyber operations, information architecture, strategic deterrence, and ISR, specializing in modular open architecture designs. The company is also a leader in cloud computing innovation, developing secure, scalable digital engineering environments with Government partners. This role contributes to cutting-edge defense technologies, providing hands-on experience in solutions vital to national security.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Software Development: Contribute to the development, testing, and maintenance of software for desktop applications and cloud services.
• Documentation & Collaboration: Assist in creating system documentation, including network and data flow diagrams, and collaborate with teams to define and implement networking architectures.
• Performance Optimization: Support the optimization of messaging protocols and schemas to enhance data transmission efficiency, security, and reliability.
• DevSecOps Adoption: Assist in the adoption of DevSecOps practices, including automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and security integration throughout the development lifecycle.
• Cloud Systems: Learn and contribute to the development, integration, and testing of cloud-based systems, including secure data management and infrastructure design.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field such as computer science, computer engineering, or software engineering. This is an early career role.
• Experience: At least one year of part- or full-time professional experience, with no more than 5 years of relevant experience. Academic or internship experience developing desktop or web applications, in AI/ML with a strong mathematics background, and with unit and/or integration testing is required.
• Skills: Familiarity with programming languages like Rust, TypeScript/JavaScript, Golang, or C#; experience with front-end web technologies such as REACT/Vue; experience working with databases including query optimization and data normalization; experience with Docker; basic understanding of GIT; exposure to software development methodologies like Agile or Scrum; strong problem-solving skills; effective oral and written communication skills; ability to work collaboratively; and must be a U.S. citizen able to obtain and maintain US Government security clearance.
• Bonus: Internship or academic project experience in software development, systems engineering, or cloud computing; experience with networking fundamentals (OSI model layers 3-7, TCP/IP, routing, common protocols); familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP); knowledge of cloud networking architectures and security mechanisms (IAM, encryption, firewalls); exposure to CI/CD methodologies and cloud-native monitoring/logging tools; or AWS cloud certification or experience with AWS GovCloud.
