About the Role: Junior Power Electronics Test Engineer
We are seeking a Junior Power Electronics Test Engineer to join our dynamic Electronics Team. This pivotal role serves as a crucial link between our Electronics, Test & Integration, and Manufacturing teams. The successful candidate will be responsible for the comprehensive testing, debugging, and validation of power conversion systems. This involves everything from building and operating test benches to diagnosing complex field failures.
Key Responsibilities
- Test Bench Development & Operation: Build and operate power electronics test benches to facilitate thorough product evaluation.
- Testing Execution: Conduct functional, performance, and stress testing on various power products, including motor drives and power converters (AC/DC, DC/AC, DC/DC).
- Lab Measurements: Perform detailed laboratory measurements to validate design performance across key parameters such as voltage, current, power, efficiency, switching waveforms, thermal characteristics, and EMI.
- Troubleshooting Support: Provide essential hardware troubleshooting support to both the Manufacturing and Test & Integration teams.
- Failure Analysis: Diagnose failed field equipment and conduct comprehensive root cause analysis to identify underlying issues.
- Documentation: Create and execute robust test plans and procedures, meticulously documenting all results, failures, and corrective actions.
- Lab Maintenance & Safety: Maintain lab equipment in optimal condition and rigorously ensure safe testing practices, especially concerning high-voltage systems.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Power Electronics Knowledge: Coursework or hands-on experience in power electronics, demonstrating an understanding of basic power electronic converters.
- Technical Acumen: Ability to read and interpret schematics and datasheets effectively.
- Lab Equipment Proficiency: Experience with standard lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, logic analyzers, and electronic loads.
- Safety Awareness: Understanding of electrical safety protocols for high-voltage systems.
- Analytical Skills: Strong troubleshooting and analytical abilities.
- PCB Basics: Basic knowledge of PCB design and layout principles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Motor Drives Experience: Hands-on experience with motor drives in a lab environment.
- Control Theory: Knowledge of motor drive control theory.
- High-Voltage Lab Experience: Lab experience with low-voltage power systems (up to 1000V).
- Internship Experience: Internship or co-op experience in hardware testing.
- Soldering Skills: Proficiency in soldering passives and basic ICs.
- PCB Design Software: Professional PCB design experience, particularly with Altium.
- Software Skills: Experience with NI LabVIEW.
