Junior Pet Stylist in Grooming | Petco

The Tone:
This is an early career role at Petco, located in one of our Pet Care Centers across the U.S., Mexico, and Puerto Rico. Petco is dedicated to helping pets live their best lives by providing essential products, services, and expert support to pet parents. This role is fundamental to introducing new team members to the world of professional pet grooming, ensuring the well-being and care of pets while building a career path in the pet care industry. You will contribute to strengthening the bond between pets and their human companions by delivering quality foundational grooming services.

The TL;DR
• Role: Early Career
• Location: In-store (Pet Care Centers across U.S., Mexico, and Puerto Rico)
• Pay: $10.00–$19.50 hourly
• Team: Reports to and works alongside experienced groomers.
• Mission: To learn essential grooming skills and provide fundamental pet care services, focusing on pet safety and customer satisfaction.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Perform foundational grooming services: Bathe, dry, trim nails, clean ears and glands under close supervision.
• Prioritize pet well-being: Ensure the safety and comfort of all animals within the grooming salon at all times.
• Deliver customer service: Engage professionally with pet parents, addressing inquiries and providing optimal support.
• Maintain salon hygiene: Disinfect tools, sanitize equipment, and perform regular cleaning duties for a safe environment.
• Manage operations: Schedule appointments, handle paperwork, maintain records, and adhere to Petco’s grooming policies and standards.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early Career role, for individuals passionate about animals and pursuing a career in pet grooming.
• Experience: 0-1 year of animal-related experience, such as shelter volunteering or pet sitting. Prior grooming salon assistance is preferred.
• Skills: Capable of handling pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy; basic understanding of dog breeds, behavior, and common grooming practices; effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Bonus: High-school diploma or GED is preferred. Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays is required.
