Junior Medicaid Programmer
About the Job
AIR is actively seeking a Junior Programmer with experience in Medicaid administrative data. This role is crucial for supporting research projects by performing various data-centric tasks. Key responsibilities include querying large claims databases, constructing and meticulously documenting analytic datasets, generating clear analytic outputs, and applying quantitative methods to complex data. The Junior Medicaid Programmer will also assist with study design and project administration, contribute to technical documentation, and ensure the highest quality and consistency across all work products.
This position is part of AIR’s Healthcare Innovations Team. This team is dedicated to supporting high-quality implementation, producing rigorous evidence on the effectiveness of new approaches to care and payment, and translating findings into actionable insights for policymakers, payers, providers, and patients.
The role offers flexibility, allowing candidates to work remotely within the United States (U.S.) or from one of AIR’s U.S. office locations. Please note, this flexibility does not extend to U.S. territories.

Responsibilities
- Query large databases, specifically including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer claims data.
- Construct and thoroughly document analytic data files.
- Create customized and presentation-quality reports based on data analysis results.
- Apply quantitative methods and techniques to effectively manage and analyze research data.
- Actively participate in the design of research studies.
- Manage administrative aspects pertinent to various projects.
- Support the preparation of technical procedures and comprehensive reports.
- Review all work products to ensure quality and consistency of content.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative analytics field with a minimum of 2 years of quantitative research experience in health policy or a related field, or a Master’s degree in a quantitative analytics field, health policy, public policy, or public health.
- 2 years of experience in SQL, Python, and/or Linux.
- Proven experience processing and analyzing Medicare, Medicaid, or other commercial claims data.
- Solid knowledge of data analysis and data management techniques.
- Experience with Snowflake and Databricks is preferred, but not strictly required.

AIR’s Total Rewards Program is designed to reward our staff competitively and motivate them to achieve our critical mission. This position offers the anticipated annual salary as listed. Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the institution and external equity with competitive markets. Please note this is the annual salary range for candidates that are based in the United States.
Anticipated Annual Salary Range: $83,700 – $111,600 USD
