About the job

Assists with the planning, coordination, and delivery of Junior Lifeguard Camp and Grommet Programs on the public beach. Supports daily operations and competitive events while ensuring engaging, safe, and well-organized activities for participants.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the implementation and operation of the Junior Lifeguard Camp.
  • Direct and oversee daily activities and programs conducted on the public beach.
  • Plan and organize daily and weekly activities for participants in the Junior Lifeguard Camp and Grommet Programs.
  • Support the operation and coordination of State and Regional Junior Lifeguard competitions.
  • Perform related duties as required.
  • May also work additional shifts as a Pool Lifeguard at Aquatics Facilities as needed.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age OR a Graduating High School Senior.
  • Ability to pass an FDLE Level II criminal Background Check and fingerprinting.
  • Swim Test: Run (300 meters) – Swim (300 meters) – Run (300 meters). OR have completed two (2) summer sessions of Pompano Beach Jr. Lifeguard Camp within the last two years of hire, OR are currently employed by a USLA-Certified Agency.

Experience:

  • Previous Jr. Lifeguard Camp participant, competitor, or equivalent.
  • Must complete physical performance and lifesaving skills test. Testing not required if currently employed by a USLA-certified agency, OR have completed two (2) summer sessions of Pompano Beach Jr. Lifeguard Camp as an attendee or employee within the last two years of hire.

Licenses / Certifications:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding, United States Lifesaving Association (USLA), or equivalent certification.
  • American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.

Key Competencies:

  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to ensure the safety of students in a variety of situations.
  • Demonstrated lifesaving and physical performance skills (as applicable).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to run, walk, bend, kneel.
  • Ability to carry and lift up to 45 lbs.
  • Ability to hear, speak, see, and read.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Work Days/Hours:

During the summer months, (the Summer Program) hours will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
