Junior Lab Tech

Location: Gretna, LA

Job Type: Contract

Overview of the Role:

The Junior Lab Tech will play a crucial role in operating and maintaining screening instruments for donor specimen testing, performing initial reviews of test results, and ensuring compliance with laboratory standards and confidentiality protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain screening instruments essential for donor specimen testing.
  • Perform initial review and analysis of test results for donor specimens and quality control samples.
  • Conduct specialized testing using refractometers and pH meters.
  • Apply various screening and specimen validity test methods, including EIA, CEDIA, and ELISA.
  • Proactively troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to screening instruments and other laboratory equipment.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all security procedures to maintain the confidentiality of donor information.
  • Follow all established company guidelines, operational procedures, laboratory safety protocols, and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with all relevant laboratory standards and regulations.
  • Monitor and maintain the functionality and calibration of laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Provide input and recommendations for continuous improvement of laboratory operations.

Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of screening and specimen validity testing methods.
  • Practical experience working with refractometers and pH meters.
  • Solid understanding of various laboratory analytical techniques and procedures.
  • Familiarity with a range of laboratory instrumentation and testing equipment.
  • Knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and general laboratory computer systems.

Preferred Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Understanding of certification requirements set by SAMHSA, CAP-FDT, and other pertinent regulatory bodies.
  • Strong ability to understand, interpret, and consistently follow complex laboratory testing protocols and guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science or a closely related field.

Key Requirements & Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Capability to perform full body movement necessary for comprehensive laboratory work.
  • Vision and hearing corrected to meet acceptable occupational standards.
  • Strong mathematical and reasoning skills essential for developing, communicating, and interpreting laboratory procedures and reports.
  • Ability to effectively manage production pressure and handle stressful situations with professionalism.
  • Proficiency in reading and understanding Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and federal laboratory guidelines.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with supervisors and team members.
  • Comfortable working in an environment with potential exposure to hazardous materials, adhering to all safety protocols.
