Position: Junior Estimator

As a Junior Estimator, you will be an integral part of our team, responsible for preparing preliminary estimates and assisting with crucial cost reports. You will support other estimators by providing pricing schedules, contributing to the preparation of proposals, and conducting technical assessments to facilitate thorough analysis functions.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Perform digital and/or manual take-offs on light fixtures, power & lighting devices, and Low Voltage (LV) Systems devices.
  • Set up projects within Accubid software.
  • Execute data entry in Accubid via LiveCount and/or manual methods.
  • Verify square footage on architectural and structural drawings.
  • Overlay drawings in Bluebeam to identify and document changes within drawing sets.
  • Become thoroughly familiar with all project drawings.
  • Read and interpret specifications as they pertain to your specific take-off responsibilities.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and job walks as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, successful project completion, and smooth departmental operations.
  • May perform additional related duties to support the estimating team as needed.

Training Program Responsibilities (2-Year Commitment)

This role includes a comprehensive training program designed to develop expertise in electrical estimating and operations:

  • Electrical Trades Class: Must commit to and successfully complete a 2-year Electrical Trades Class with a passing grade. Classes will cover essential topics including, but not limited to:
    • Electrical theory
    • Basic electrical circuitry
    • Ampacities
    • Conduit fill calculations
    • Box size calculations
    • National Electrical Code (NEC)
    • Electrical methods and practices
  • On-Site/Prefab Shop Modules: Must commit to periodic tenure (1-2 week modules) in the prefab shop or on a jobsite. These modules will focus on electrical project operations and practices, including:
    • Understanding of basic material identification
    • Labor and production principles
    • Safety protocols
    • Scheduling
    • Equipment knowledge
    • Prefabrication processes
    • Project management processes

    Successfully complete an evaluation for each module.

  • Journeyman Prep: Must successfully pass a Journeyman’s Prep Test.
  • Estimating Skills Development: Begin to learn and become proficient in core electrical estimating skills, including but not limited to:
    • Counting takeoff
    • Lighting branch takeoff
    • Power branch takeoff
    • Mechanical branch takeoff
    • Systems raceways takeoff
    • Distribution takeoff
  • Software and Process Acumen: Acquire knowledge of Request For Pricings (RFP), Request For Quotes (RFQ), AccuBid software, LiveCount, and Bluebeam.
  • Career Progression: Continually progress in your ability to move into an Electrical Estimator role.

Education And Experience

  • Minimum 1-year experience in estimating preferred.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.

Required Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities

  • Accubid & LiveCount experience preferred but not required; willingness to learn is essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Bluebeam.
  • High degree of sensitivity for confidentiality.
  • Task-oriented with an excellent sense of priority, logic, and objectivity; highly organized and capable of managing multiple priorities.
  • Independent and self-motivated work ethic.
  • Excellent customer service focus with an ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Demonstrated reliability, judgment, and professionalism.
  • Must maintain a 98% attendance and on-time record.

Work Environment

The work environment may vary and includes:

  • Working inside or outside with possible exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures and weather elements.
  • Operating in restricted or confined spaces and on slippery or uneven surfaces.
  • Potential exposure to working on ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and other exposures typical of heavy construction.
  • Regular operation in an office setting, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Physical Demands

The role requires a range of physical abilities, including:

  • Ability to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, standing, or stretching.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to move about on the feet regularly and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Requires the ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • May require travel.
  • Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
  • Ability to talk and hear, and communicate with others both written and orally and by telephone.
  • Possess good vision, normal or corrected. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Possesses good hearing, normal or corrected.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest), as needed.
  • Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required; night shifts as needed. Must be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite.
  • Must be able to work in the presence of customers and their representatives with little or no interference or disruption to the customer while maintaining a professional and courteous image.
