Position Summary

Serco has an exciting opportunity for a Junior Engineer to support high-profile and challenging projects for the US Navy’s Virginia Class Submarine (VCS) Program office (PMS 450). This role is part of the larger Team Submarine organization in Washington, D.C. The VCS Program is the Department of Navy’s largest nuclear Shipbuilding Program, with a planned acquisition of 49 nuclear submarines and a $10B annual budget. Virginia Class Submarines are the world’s most advanced submarines, essential for national defense, with acquisitions planned through 2043 and expected service until at least 2060.

Serco supports the US Navy as a prime contractor for their Team Submarine contract, which unifies submarine-related activities to improve communication and efficiency in research, development, acquisition, and maintenance. PMS450 specifically oversees the design, construction, and delivery of VIRGINIA Class Submarines.

This position requires the ability to obtain/maintain/transfer an active DoD Secret security clearance.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Be part of a team providing support to the customer for the next-generation Virginia Class submarine.
  • Collaborate with Team Sub staff to update and enhance the Virginia Class submarine program.

Required Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Must have or be able to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline.
  • Proficiency in a variety of software products (e.g., MS Suite, SharePoint, Teams).
  • Experience interfacing with an end-item customer.
  • The ability to travel as needed (up to 10% of the time).
  • The ability to work on-site in Washington, D.C.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Active NNPI account and CAC.
  • Experience working in DoD or DoN environments.
  • Knowledge of PMS450.
  • Active Duty Experience in the submarine service.
  • Recent experience in Team Submarine.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to complete projects and meet deadlines.
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking ability to identify risks and devise effective strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • The ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • The ability to work well within a time-sensitive environment.

Salary Range:

The salary range for this position is provided as a general guideline and represents a good faith estimate across all experience levels. Actual base salary will be determined by factors such as the scope of the role, relevant experience, job-related knowledge, education and training, key skills, and geographic market considerations. In addition to base salary, eligible positions may include annual bonuses or long-term incentive opportunities.
