About the Opportunity

Ovation Fertility has an immediate opening for a Junior Embryologist to join our team in Fort Worth, Texas. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with rotating weekends and holidays as needed.

How You’ll Contribute (Key Responsibilities)

We always do whatever it takes, even if it isn’t specifically our “job.” In general, the Junior Embryologist is responsible for:

  • Undertaking embryology laboratory procedures as directed.
  • Performing all procedures required for IVF cycles, including:
    • Medium and dish preparation
    • Egg retrieval
    • Sperm preparation
    • Fertilization check
    • Embryo evaluation
    • Cryopreservation and thawing
    • Transfer
    • ICSI and assisted hatching
    • Experience with trophectoderm biopsy is preferred
  • Performing daily embryology tasks such as:
    • Set-ups / egg retrievals
    • ICSI-IVF
    • Fertilization – embryo development checks
    • Embryo transfers
    • Cryopreservation
    • Testicular Biopsy preparations-Cryo
    • Embryo Biopsy for PGD and reporting
  • Performing all andrology services, including:
    • Preparation of semen samples for artificial inseminations and IVF
    • Cryopreservation of sperm
    • Complete sperm analysis assessed by World Health Organization (WHO) standards
    • Processing semen specimens for artificial insemination/IVF-ICSI, hyaluran sperm binding assays and cryopreservation
  • Demonstrating advanced knowledge of reproductive biology, including the male and female reproductive system.
  • Maintaining a strong awareness and understanding of the sensitive and confidential nature of ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology) treatment.
  • Complying with HIPAA privacy regulations and ensuring all laboratory procedures have been properly consented.
  • Training in the latest technologies, including but not limited to: trophectoderm biopsy, oocyte vitrification, and complex micromanipulation skills.
  • Demonstrating excellent clinical skills and the ability to lead and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Being comfortable with the physical handling of oocytes, embryos, and semen, including hazardous specimens.
  • Managing aseptic techniques diligently.
  • Being competent in the correct assessment and grading of oocyte, embryo, and sperm morphology.
  • Performing meticulous clerical tasks and adhering to established protocols and laboratory guidelines.
  • Executing meticulous data entry into computer databases and software programs.
  • Maintaining detailed and accurate patient logs and laboratory reports.
  • Communicating detailed information clearly and professionally to patients, staff, and regulatory bodies.
  • Communicating directly with physicians regarding daily IVF/ICSI and embryo development outcomes.
  • Working with nurses to coordinate daily procedure scheduling.
  • Maintaining, organizing, scanning, and filing patient results, ensuring all records are complete, including physician signatures, and accurate. Confirming results on the patient ART Summary sheets in EMR.
  • Performing laboratory quality control (QC), quality assessment (QA), and participating in quality improvement (QI) programs, record-keeping, and data collection.
  • Performing and maintaining quality control records on all materials associated with the IVF lab and processes.
  • Performing quality assurance and preventative maintenance.
  • Maintaining, cleaning, and disinfecting the IVF Lab and its equipment (especially the incubators).
  • Providing support for CAP inspection preparedness and inspections.
  • Working with the Lab supervisor to maintain ART records for SART.
  • Having a desire to develop and coordinate clinical research projects.
  • Developing and completing publishable research projects.
  • Providing support for manuscript preparation and editing.
  • Participating in research on oocyte cryopreservation, oocyte maturation, preimplantation genetic diagnosis, and related research.
  • Assisting in the preparation of routine and ad hoc analyses of data relating to laboratory performance and specific research projects.
  • Maintaining technical proficiency in routine laboratory procedures.
  • Having a desire to obtain additional competency certification by the American Board of Bioanalysis.
  • Participating in Continuing Technical Improvement exercises.
  • Performing other duties as assigned, in keeping with company policies, procedures, and standards of patient care and initiatives toward continuous improvement.

What You’ll Bring (Qualifications)

The skills and education we need are:

  • Bachelors Degree in Biology or a related field required.
  • 1+ years of related laboratory experience.
  • Artisan and Matcher experience is a plus.
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays on a rotating basis with other teammates.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as part of a cohesive team.
  • Good research skills.
  • Tech-savvy proficiency.
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn at all times.
  • Excellent multi-tasking abilities and strong organizational skills.
