Junior Data Engineer – Role Description & Qualifications
The Junior Data Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting the development and maintenance of robust data infrastructure. This position is central to ensuring efficient data collection, processing, and storage, with a strong focus on building reliable data pipelines and maintaining high-quality, accessible data for both analytical insights and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and implementation of ETL/ELT pipelines to move and transform data.
- Integrate data from various sources (e.g., APIs, databases, files) into centralized data systems.
- Support the management and optimization of databases and data warehouses.
- Collaborate effectively with data analysts, data scientists, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and ensure seamless data flow.
- Monitor data pipeline performance, proactively troubleshoot issues, and optimize processes for efficiency and reliability.
- Support data architecture initiatives and contribute to strategic data planning.
- Maintain thorough documentation for data processes, systems, and pipelines, ensuring clarity and maintainability.
- Adhere to best practices in data management and governance, ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance.
- Assist in automating workflows and improving overall data processing efficiency.
Qualifications
Technical Skills
- Foundational understanding of programming and data handling, particularly in:
- Python (for scripting, data manipulation, and pipeline development)
- SQL (for querying, managing databases, and data transformations)
- Familiarity with database systems (e.g., relational databases like PostgreSQL, MySQL; NoSQL databases).
- Knowledge of data modeling principles and schema design.
- Exposure to cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and their data services is advantageous.
- Experience with data pipeline tools and workflow orchestration frameworks (e.g., Apache Airflow, Prefect, Dagster) is considered a strong plus.
