This position is primarily remote; however, we are seeking candidates based in Tucson, AZ (preferred) or Phoenix, AZ, who can attend in-person meetings once or twice per month.
ImportGenius provides access to large-scale global trade data from multiple countries. We transform complex import-export datasets into meaningful insights that help businesses make smarter decisions.
We are looking for a Junior Data Analyst who is detail-oriented, analytical, and excited to start their career in data. This role is ideal for fresh graduates with no or minimal prior job experience who want hands-on exposure to real-world datasets, SQL analytics, and business intelligence tools.
You will work closely with the Director of Research and collaborate with internal teams to support analytics projects and customer data needs. Our research department also works closely with international media and engages in work with significant real-world impacts, such as tracking the footprint of tainted, dangerous medications in global supply chains and investigating deforestation.
Responsibility and Accountability
As a Junior Data Analyst, you will:
- Write and improve SQL queries to extract and analyze data
- Assist in generating customized datasets based on business or customer requirements
- Help clean, validate, and check data for quality and accuracy
- Support analytics projects involving large datasets
- Create basic dashboards and reports using BI tools
- Help analyze requests for feasibility (with guidance)
- Translate business questions into data-driven approaches (with guidance)
- Document processes and findings clearly
- Collaborate with technical and non-technical teams

Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field
- Understanding of basic data concepts
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good communication skills and willingness to collaborate
- Eagerness to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment
Nice to Have (Not Required):
- Familiarity with BI tools (e.g., QuickSight, Tableau, Power BI)
- Exposure to data cleaning and data quality processes
- Basic understanding of data modeling concepts
- Experience using Python (e.g., Pandas) for simple data analysis
- Experience with DuckDB
- Familiarity with Git or APIs
- Interest in the import-export or logistics industry
- Interest in journalism and geopolitical issues
