Junior Chemist | Bentley Labs (part of THG)

The Tone:
This is an early career position at Bentley Labs, located in Edison, NJ. Bentley Labs is a premier beauty contract manufacturer, creating and producing award-winning innovations across skincare, body care, haircare, and color cosmetics. This role is essential for transforming product concepts into marketable realities, from initial formulation to successful production. You will receive mentorship while gaining hands-on experience in cosmetic development.

• Pay: $50000–$60000 yearly
• Team: Reports to the R&D Manager.
• Mission: To develop cosmetic products from initial briefs through formulation, stability testing, and preparation for manufacturing.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop: Create OTC and non-OTC products (skin, hair, and sun care) to meet specific technical and aesthetic goals.
• Formulate: Prepare laboratory batches for customer samples and refine formulas based on feedback received.
• Plan: Develop detailed roadmaps for successful lab-scale results, including order of addition and processing parameters.
• Maintain: Keep precise R&D records according to GLP and cGMP standards, ensuring all compliance needs are met with Regulatory.
• Optimize: Collaborate with the team to enhance formula performance and identify opportunities for production efficiency and cost reduction.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field.
• Experience: At least one year of experience in cosmetic formulation development and R&D.
• Skills: Knowledge of basic regulatory requirements (FDA, CTFA, PCPC), current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), strong time and project management abilities, and proactive communication.
• Bonus: Creativity and flexibility to incorporate new ingredients and technologies into product development.
