Junior Accounting Coordinator | Somnia Inc.

The Tone:
This is a hybrid role at Somnia Inc., with three days remote work per week and two days on-site at our corporate headquarters in Harrison, NY. This position is vital for supporting the Accounting Department through various entry-level accounting and administrative tasks. It offers a significant opportunity for individuals to build foundational accounting skills and gain practical experience in general ledger accounting, cash management, account reconciliations, and financial reporting. The Junior Accounting Coordinator will collaborate closely with the accounting team, contributing to daily operations and deepening their understanding of accounting principles and company procedures.

What You’ll Actually Do
Cash Management: Assist with daily cash management activities, which includes monitoring various bank accounts and performing timely bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy.
Expense & Journal Entries: Help re-allocate monthly expenses accurately and record journal entries consistently, maintaining comprehensive supporting documentation for all transactions.
Financial Reporting & Reconciliations: Respond to internal department information requests by gathering necessary data and preparing standard and ad hoc reports, while also assisting with account reconciliations and investigating any discrepancies found.
Transaction Processing & Close Support: Process and verify accounting transactions for accuracy and completeness, and actively support both month-end and year-end close activities to ensure timely completion.
Compliance & Record Keeping: Coordinate the completion and submission of ad hoc surveys and census reports, maintaining organized supporting documentation and ensuring all deadlines are strictly met, while also maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.

The Must-Haves
Background: Entry-Level. Candidates should possess an Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field, demonstrating a basic understanding of accounting principles and financial statements. Recent graduates are highly encouraged to apply.
Experience: Requires 0 to 3 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or a related field. Internship experience specifically within accounting or finance environments is considered a valuable asset.
Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for spreadsheet creation and reporting, alongside strong command of other Microsoft Office applications. Demonstrated strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills are essential, coupled with strong written and verbal communication abilities. Candidates must also exhibit the capacity to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and show a strong willingness to learn and develop accounting knowledge.
Bonus: Experience utilizing accounting software such as QuickBooks or Microsoft Dynamics GP is preferred. Prior experience in industries such as healthcare, physician practice management, or anesthesia services will be given strong preference.
