Staff Accountant I – Payroll | Burlington Stores, Inc.

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Burlington Stores, Inc., located in Burlington, NJ with a hybrid work schedule. Burlington Stores is a rapidly growing retail organization. This position is vital for ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance by managing general ledger account analysis, journal entries, accruals, and comprehensive payroll audit and analysis.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Close: Perform monthly close activities, including workpapers, analysis, journal entries, and accrual calculations for financial accounting, ensuring data integrity.
• Variance Analysis: Partner with FP&A to analyze and review forecast to actual results on a consolidated level, preparing summarized variance explanations.
• Payroll Tax Reconciliation: Conduct reconciliations and balancing between third-party tax reports and payroll tax summary reports to ensure accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end reporting.
• Payroll Reporting: Create and monitor pre- and post-payroll reports for internal and external review, auditing daily reports, and maintaining supporting databases.
• Audit Support: Assist Senior Accountant in responding to internal and external audit requests by gathering data and reports and conducting audits to ensure data accuracy.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting. This is an early career role focused on accounting and payroll.
• Experience: 1-2 years of payroll/accounting experience.
• Skills: Proficient or Advanced in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; Proficient in Workday, ADP SmartCompliance; Knowledge of Accounting/Payroll including process, procedures and internal controls; Strong analysis, research and audit skills; Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Bonus: Power BI experience; Adaptive financial software experience.
