Junior Accountant | Segal
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Segal, located in New York, NY. Segal is a privately owned, leading North American consulting firm with over 85 years of history, providing trusted advice in employee benefits, human resources, and investment management that improves lives. As a Junior Accountant, you will support the day-to-day financial operations that keep the business moving, including reconciliations, journal entries, close activities, reporting, budgeting support, and compliance. This role offers hands-on experience and exposure to core finance processes within a supportive team, valuing precision, collaboration, and growth.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Close Management: Support comprehensive monthly and quarterly financial close activities, including the preparation of detailed journal entries and daily cash sheets, alongside bank and cashbook reconciliations.
• Account Reconciliation & Analysis: Prepare and meticulously analyze balance sheet and expense account reconciliations, covering general ledger, bank statement activity, and daily cash transactions.
• Internal Reporting & Insights: Create monthly internal Profit and Loss statements for distribution to reporting groups and provide essential ad hoc financial analysis and reporting to senior leaders, including Directors and the CFO.
• Operational Oversight: Take ownership of routine financial responsibilities to maintain the smooth flow of day-to-day operations and contribute support to budgeting processes.
• Policy Adherence & Improvement: Ensure strict compliance with all internal policies and established accounting standards, while actively contributing to identifying and implementing process improvements.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or another quantitative and analytical academic discipline, with familiarity with basic accounting principles, suitable for an entry-level role.
• Experience: One or more years of relevant accounting and/or financial administration experience, including the ability to research, analyze, and summarize financial information.
• Skills: Demonstrate strong initiative, exceptional time management, and robust organizational skills, coupled with a keen attention to detail. Possess the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities simultaneously and consistently meet established deadlines. Exhibit strong interpersonal, client service, and clear verbal/written communication skills, enabling effective work both independently and collaboratively in teams.
• Bonus: Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations and Power BI.
