IT Intern

The IT Intern position at EmployIndy is a project-based internship designed to support the organization’s mission by assisting the IT Director. This role will be crucial in advancing modernization initiatives focused on reducing technical debt, enhancing cybersecurity posture, and increasing overall technology adoption within the organization.

This internship is ideal for an organized, detail-oriented, and analytical individual with a keen interest in pursuing a career in Information Technology (IT) or organizational operations.

Key Responsibilities and Project Areas

Asset Management Project

  • Assist in formulating and coordinating the IT asset lifecycle management project.
  • Complete a comprehensive physical inventory of IT hardware, including laptops, desktops, peripherals, and network equipment.
  • Lead the organization and maintenance of IT closets, ensuring cleanliness and proper categorization of equipment.
  • Reconcile the asset management database following the completion of the physical inventory.
  • Relocate physical equipment, such as laptops or monitors, within the office as needed.

Data Analysis and Usage Projects

  • Review, analyze, and compare various data sets to support strategic operational decisions, mitigate security risks, and identify potential cost savings. An example assignment includes comparing HR system data with existing user licenses to identify unused accounts.
  • Review internal databases and resources to discover gaps in documentation or areas where improvements can be made.

Business Process Documentation Projects

  • Meet with end users to assist with business process analysis.
  • Identify inefficiencies within existing processes or potential opportunities for digitization or workflow simplification.
  • Create basic process maps, step-by-step process descriptions, or summaries for review by the IT Director.

IT Knowledge Base Validation and Expansion

  • Collaborate with the managed service provider to document basic IT processes, identifying areas for improved documentation or increased efficiencies.
  • Identify areas for outreach and improvement to encourage greater technology adoption and enhance end-user computing and cybersecurity practices.
  • Assist in building an internal end-user IT knowledge base and communication site.

IT Director Support

  • Assist in administrative work for various IT projects by creating training materials, project artifacts, or maintaining project documentation.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned by IT management.

Requirements

Experience

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a college program, or possess equivalent relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated interest in a career in Information Technology, Informatics, Management Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Nonprofit Management, Business Operations, Data Analytics, or a closely related field.

Technical Skills

  • Moderate understanding of Windows operating system and end-user computing concepts.
  • Moderate knowledge of the Microsoft M365 platform, particularly Excel, SharePoint, and Teams.
  • General understanding of cybersecurity best practices, networking concepts, and relational databases.
  • General understanding of business process mapping methodologies.
  • General understanding of project management principles.

  • Strong willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across different teams and departments.
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to complete assigned work with minimum supervision, demonstrating initiative.

  • High level of professionalism and discretion when handling sensitive information.
  • A genuine desire to work for a mission-driven, non-profit organization.

Salary

The salary for this internship is: $16.00 per hour.
