Job Description

This is an IT Intern position located in Philadelphia, PA, scheduled to begin in Fall 2025. The exact hours and start/end dates are flexible to accommodate the intern’s academic calendar.

The internship aims to provide a well-rounded experience, familiarizing the individual with FIRE’s activities and the moral and intellectual foundations of its work. Interns will gain exposure to a variety of robust IT solutions, including mobile device management, enterprise cloud solutions, and best-in-class user experience and support.

Responsibilities for the IT Intern include, but are not limited to:
• Performing day-to-day operations such as answering phones, dispatching IT tickets, and assisting with general user experience.
• Conducting research on various IT-related topics.
• Performing basic CRM administration and data maintenance duties.
• Performing basic website administration duties.
• Performing other duties as assigned.
FIRE also offers educational opportunities, including the chance to work with FIRE’s leadership and other experts on civil liberties in education.

Qualifications for a successful candidate include:
Excellent computer skills, specifically with Mac operating systems, and proficiency in MS Office and the Google Workspace/Gmail platform.
• Comfort using Excel or Googlesheets.
Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders across various organizational levels.
Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications include:
• Experience in an IT support role or troubleshooting experience.
• An understanding of and enthusiasm for FIRE’s mission.
• Experience with Salesforce or other CRM and data management systems.
Student leadership experience.

Office and Position Details:
• The internship is based at FIRE’s office in Old City, Philadelphia.
• The office is easily accessible via SEPTA regional rail, subway, bus service, or PATCO rail service for commuters. Parking is also available in the area, costing between $15 and $30 per day.
• The IT Intern is compensated at $17.00 per hour and will work in a standard office environment.
• Job responsibilities will involve the use of personal computers, copy machines, and telephones.
• Some physical requirements include occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 30 pounds and performing errands within the immediate vicinity of the FIRE office, which will involve walking.
• Students will undergo regular evaluations. While highly successful candidates may be invited back for future intern experiences or offered a part-time position, further employment is not guaranteed.
