Associate/Vice President – Opportunistic Credit | Turning Rock Partners

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Turning Rock Partners. The company operates as an opportunistic credit asset manager, dedicated to providing bespoke debt and structured equity solutions to capital-constrained middle market businesses throughout North America. The firm strategically invests in value-oriented opportunities with an emphasis on downside protection, encompassing corporate debt, structured equity, and other special situation financings. This Associate/Vice President role is central to the firm’s investment process, directly impacting portfolio growth and risk management by leading the identification, rigorous analysis, and successful execution of these complex investment opportunities.

The TL;DR
• Role: Early Career
• Mission: Own the end-to-end process of identifying, deeply analyzing, and executing opportunistic credit and structured equity investments, ultimately contributing to strategic portfolio construction decisions for North American lower and mid-market companies.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Credit Analysis: Perform deep-dive fundamental credit analysis across multiple industry verticals, thoroughly assessing business models, financial performance, liquidity profiles, capital structures, covenant packages, and overall creditworthiness.
• Financial Modeling & Reporting: Build, manage, and refine advanced financial models, then prepare high-quality investment memos and comprehensive presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Deal Sourcing & Evaluation: Proactively source and rigorously evaluate investment opportunities, providing well-supported recommendations and contributing directly to portfolio construction decisions.
• Deal Execution Leadership: Lead live deal execution processes, which includes managing due diligence workstreams, coordinating third-party advisors, reviewing quality of earnings and legal diligence, structuring transaction terms, and negotiating confidentiality agreements and other critical transaction documents.
• Stakeholder Engagement & Structuring: Engage directly with C-suite executives, lenders, sponsors, and other capital providers, representing the firm in strategic discussions while applying capital structure knowledge to structure creative private credit and structured equity solutions.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Investment professional with 3-6 years of relevant investment experience, including a foundational 2-year investment banking program focused on leveraged finance or restructuring. This background provides core domain knowledge in evaluating complex capital structures and distressed situations.
• Experience: Possess a minimum of 3-6 years of relevant investment experience, with at least 2 years specifically in an investment banking program specializing in leveraged finance or restructuring. Demonstrable experience is required in timely and independently identifying, developing, and navigating complex debt and equity investment situations.
• Skills: Strong analytical capabilities for deep-dive fundamental credit analysis, expertise in building and refining advanced financial models, proven ability in leading deal execution including due diligence and negotiation, proficiency in reviewing and analyzing complex legal documentation, and superior investment performance combined with strong decision-making skills.
• Bonus: Significant prior experience in private credit or opportunistic credit investing is highly preferred. Additionally, an established network within capital markets for effective transaction sourcing and a proactive ability to develop new investment opportunities will be advantageous. The role also benefits from individuals who can work effectively both independently and as a flexible team member.
