Investment Banking Debt Advisory & Restructuring Associate | Oppenheimer & Co. Inc.

The Tone:
This is a full-time Associate role at Oppenheimer & Co. Inc., located in New York, NY. Oppenheimer is a well-established middle-market investment bank and full-service broker-dealer with a history dating back to 1881, engaged in a broad range of financial services, including investment banking, sales and trading, research, and asset management. The firm’s Investment Banking Team delivers in-depth industry knowledge and market-based strategies across key sectors such as Consumer and Retail, Energy, Financial Institutions, Healthcare, and Technology. This position is vital for the Debt Advisory & Restructuring team, advising companies, creditors, and other stakeholders on critical strategic financial alternatives and executing complex transactions. The Associate will play a key role in delivering essential advice, strategies, and capital to high-growth, entrepreneurial middle-market companies.

• Mission: Advise companies, creditors, and other stakeholders in evaluating Strategic Alternatives, including Special Situations Financing, Liability Management, M&A and Restructuring.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Transaction Leadership: Lead the day-to-day execution of debt advisory and restructuring transactions, working closely under the direction of Managing Directors.
• Document Preparation: Take the lead in drafting comprehensive pitch materials and various transaction marketing documents for client engagement.
• Client Engagement & Due Diligence: Coordinate and perform thorough business due diligence, actively executing transactions with direct client interaction and communication.
• Financial Analysis & Oversight: Conduct, review, and oversee the development of complex financial models, valuation analyses, and in-depth research to support strategic recommendations.
• Team Development: Contribute to the growth of the team by training and mentoring junior members, fostering their professional development within the group.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Requires core domain knowledge and significant experience in investment banking, with a specific focus and track record within the restructuring sector. This role also requires the ability to successfully obtain the SIE 7, 79, and 63 FINRA licenses at the time of hiring or shortly thereafter to ensure full compliance and functional capability.
• Experience: Demonstrated aptitude for both quantitative and qualitative analysis is essential. Candidates must possess exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, and a strong executive presence. An elevated attention to detail and consistency in work product are critical, alongside a high degree of maturity, integrity, and proven leadership skills. The ideal candidate will be a self-starting team player with a strong work ethic, thriving in a challenging, entrepreneurial environment.
