Internship in Organic/Polymer Chemistry: Improving Inkjet Inks with Click Chemistry

Canon Production Printing is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic student with a strong background in chemical synthesis, particularly polymer synthesis or click chemistry, to join their team. This internship focuses on improving the sustainability of UV-cured inks using click chemistry and polymer chemistry.
The Internship Focuses On:
• Investigating Click Chemistry for Ink Development: The project aims to explore the potential of click chemistry (e.g., thiol-ene or oxime click chemistry) to create functional coatings on PVC or paper.
• Evaluating Ink Properties: The intern will assess ink stability using rheometry, curing rate, and recyclability through techniques such as IR or NMR spectroscopy.
• Analyzing Coating Properties: The intern will evaluate the mechanical properties of the coatings created using click chemistry.
• Correlating Properties: The intern will establish relationships between the properties of the inks, coatings, and their individual components.
• Gaining Industry Experience: The internship provides valuable experience in a large company environment and networking opportunities with professionals across diverse fields.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct research and experiments on click chemistry applications for ink development.
• Analyze ink and coating properties using various characterization techniques (NMR, rheometry, DSC, IR spectroscopy).
• Develop and interpret data, documenting findings and recommendations.
• Collaborate with team members and contribute to project discussions.
Qualifications:
• Research Background: A strong research background in chemical synthesis, preferably polymer synthesis or click chemistry.
• Materials Characterization: Experience with materials characterization techniques, including NMR, rheometry, DSC, or IR spectroscopy.
• Teamwork and Motivation: A self-motivated and results-driven team player.
• Availability: Available for 5-9 months, working a minimum of 4 days per week.
