Internship: Improving Inkjet Inks with Click Chemistry

This internship offers the opportunity to research the use of click chemistry in developing sustainable and functional coatings for inkjet printing. The focus is on utilizing click chemistry (specifically thiol-ene or oxime click chemistry) to create coatings on PVC or paper for use with Canon’s UVgel technology.

Here’s a breakdown of the internship’s key aspects:

Goal: Explore the potential of click chemistry to create more sustainable and functional UV-cured inks for Canon’s Colorado series printers.
Focus: Reducing the environmental impact of inks and expanding their application range.
Responsibilities:
• Synthesize and characterize functional coatings using click chemistry.
• Evaluate ink stability, curing rate, and recyclability through techniques like rheometry, IR or NMR spectroscopy.
• Analyze mechanical properties of the coatings.
• Relate ink and coating properties to the properties of their components.
Benefits:
• Gain valuable experience in a leading company.
• Work on a challenging research project with experienced mentors.
• Participate in a collaborative environment with professionals from diverse fields.
• Receive a monthly stipend of €500.
• Potential reimbursement for travel expenses.
Requirements:
• Strong research background in chemical synthesis, particularly polymer synthesis or click chemistry.
• Experience with materials characterization techniques like NMR, rheometry, DSC, or IR spectroscopy.
• Proven ability to work effectively in a team setting.
• Strong self-motivation and a results-oriented approach.
• Availability for 5-9 months, working at least 4 days per week.
