Job Description
About Canon Production Printing:
Canon Production Printing is a leading developer and manufacturer of cutting-edge printing products and workflow software, serving the commercial printing market. As part of the global Canon group, they specialize in providing innovative imaging technologies and services. With approximately 3300 employees (as of 2022), Canon Production Printing operates across three continents, headquartered in Venlo, Netherlands.
Their mission: To empower customers with advanced printing solutions that drive efficiency, productivity, and creative possibilities in the printing industry.
Their values: Collaboration, innovation, and ownership form the foundation of their company culture, fostering a positive environment where employees can excel, push boundaries, and take responsibility for their work.
Internship Opportunity: Developing a Sheet Deformation Unit
The Challenge:
Canon Production Printing transports numerous loose printed sheets through their high-performance printing machines. Ink, moisture, and varying climate conditions can cause these sheets to deform. This deformation poses a potential challenge for reliable sheet transportation.
The Goal:
To develop a unit capable of deforming sheets in a defined way, simulating the effects of ink, moisture, and environmental factors. This unit will be integrated into their printing machines to test the robustness of the sheet transport system.
The Need:
During certain phases of machine development, Canon Production Printing desires a method to test sheet transport without using actual ink. This necessitates a solution that can introduce controlled deformation to the sheets.
The Opportunity:
This internship offers a unique design challenge with significant impact on the development and testing of Canon Production Printing’s high-tech machines. You will be involved in a project that requires creative problem-solving and a deep understanding of engineering principles.
Key Activities:
1. Problem Definition: Clearly identify the problem, its root causes, and potential challenges. Translate these insights into specific design requirements.
2. Idea Generation: Use design methodologies aligned with Fontys curriculum to generate creative solutions for sheet deformation.
3. Prototype Development: Transform the selected idea into a functional prototype or test setup (breadboard).
4. Verification and Testing: Develop a rigorous test plan to evaluate the prototype’s performance and verify its ability to meet the design requirements.
5. Reflection and Recommendations: Analyze test results, provide recommendations for improvements, and document your findings.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
• Currently studying MD/Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent (BSc-level).
• Seeking an internship offering a challenging and stimulating design project.
• Possess the ability to independently analyze and manage a complex project.
Benefits of the Internship:
• Challenging Project: Gain hands-on experience with a real-world engineering challenge.
• Skilled Coaching: Receive guidance and support from experienced professionals.
• Financial Compensation: Earn €500 per month.
• Travel Cost Reimbursement: If you don’t have a public transportation pass.
• Networking Opportunities: Connect with industry professionals across various disciplines.
• Valuable Experience: Develop your engineering skills and contribute to a leading company in the printing industry.
