Description: Design and Develop a Sheet Deformation Unit
The Challenge:
Canon Production Printing faces challenges with transporting loose printed sheets in their high-productivity printers. Ink, moisture, and varying climate conditions can cause sheets to deform, leading to potential issues during the printing process. To ensure the robustness of their transport systems, they require a way to test how well their machines handle these deformed sheets.
The Assignment:
This internship involves designing and building a unit that can deform printed sheets in a controlled and reproducible manner. This unit must be adaptable for integration into their existing machines. The ideal candidate is creative, enjoys a challenge, and can work independently.
Key Activities:
1. Clarify Requirements:
• Define specific sheet deformation scenarios (e.g., warping, curling)
• Determine required deformation parameters (e.g., degree of curl, area of warping)
• Identify compatibility requirements with existing machines
2. Generate Ideas:
• Explore various design approaches using methods learned in your engineering courses
• Consider factors like materials, actuation mechanisms, and control systems
3. Develop a Prototype:
• Translate the chosen design into a functional breadboard or test setup
• Ensure the prototype meets the specified deformation parameters
4. Test and Verify:
• Create a detailed test plan to validate the prototype’s performance
• Execute the test plan, record results, and analyze data
5. Reflection and Recommendations:
• Summarize findings and identify areas for improvement
• Suggest refinements or future development directions
Candidate Profile:
• Studying Mechanical Engineering (MD) or Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent (BSc-level)
• Seeking an internship with a challenging design focus
• Ability to manage projects independently and conduct thorough research
Benefits:
• An engaging and challenging internship experience with skilled coaching
• Internship/Graduation compensation of €500,- per month
• Travel cost compensation if you don’t have an ‘OV-weekcard’
• Opportunities for networking with professionals within and outside your field
• A collaborative work environment that values innovation and ownership
