Job Description, Detailed
This position is for an Intern within the Family Services organization, located in Springville, UT. The primary purpose of this role is to support Church leaders in caring for individuals facing social and emotional challenges by providing resources that align with gospel principles.
The intern’s core responsibilities revolve around providing direct counseling services and consultation to ecclesiastical leaders, operating under close supervision. The scope of issues addressed is broad, including, but not limited to, suicide, various mental disorders, child and spouse abuse, and other complex family relationship problems.
Key responsibilities and their approximate time allocations include:
• 60% Clinical Care: Directly providing counseling services to clients under close supervision. This is the primary focus of the internship.
• 20% Consultation: Engaging in consultative activities and maintaining positive relationships with Church leaders to assist them in their care for members.
• 15% Documentation: Meticulously maintaining accurate and up-to-date notes within the data collection system, ensuring proper record-keeping.
• 5% Work Area Maintenance: Ensuring the work area remains clean, safe, and well-organized.
This role demands strict adherence to professional standards, particularly concerning confidentiality and legal issues. The incumbent must demonstrate professionalism and sensitivity when handling confidential matters and ensure strict policy and legal compliance. Providing quality customer service is also paramount.
Qualifications for this internship are specific:
• Educational Status: Applicants must be a 2nd-year master’s degree student actively pursuing a counseling degree in fields such as Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling Psychology, or a closely related discipline.
• Moral Conduct: The ability to maintain exacting standards of moral conduct is essential.
• Professional Knowledge: Possess knowledge of legal issues pertinent to the counseling profession.
• Communication Skills: Demonstrate proven written and verbal communication skills, particularly the ability to communicate sensitive subject matter professionally with both clients and ecclesiastical leaders.
• Professional Development: Show the ability to develop and diligently follow through with an individual training plan for ongoing skill education and professional development.
• Gospel Alignment: Capable of providing services that are consistent with gospel standards and values.
• Demeanor: Maintain a professional appearance and attitude.
