Job Description: Intern Program (Fall 2025)

HPM is recruiting for its Intern Program for the Fall 2025 term, targeting students specializing in civil engineering or building/construction sciences.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Understanding Construction Processes: Gain a foundational understanding of the overall construction process, including estimating, bidding, and actual construction phases.
Submittal Process Management: Work extensively with the submittal process, which involves maintaining appropriate logs, reviewing submittals, and approving shop drawings and submittals.
Documentation and Distribution: Prepare transmittals for the organized distribution of project documentation.
Jobsite Support: Provide assistance with various aspects of jobsite operations, including setup, obtaining permits, and closeout procedures.
Estimating Support: Participate actively in quantity take-offs and estimating tasks, which are crucial for project bidding and planning.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Computer Skills: Proficiency in computer skills, particularly working with spreadsheets.
Communication Skills: Possess good communication skills for effective interaction.
Responsibility: Demonstrate a willingness to handle responsibility.

Requirements for Candidates:

Education: Must be a student actively pursuing a four-year or advanced degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or Building Science.
Academic Standing: Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5.
Academic Progress: Must have completed their college freshman year.
Driving: Possess a valid Driver’s License.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:

The role requires the ability to successfully perform essential functions under various conditions.

Environment: The work environment combines both indoor and outdoor settings. Interns will be exposed to all types of weather and temperature conditions and will be required to travel from site to site.
Physical Ability: The position demands sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting, including the capacity to stand or sit for prolonged periods. Occasional physical activities such as stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and twisting are required. The ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight is also necessary. Operation of equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination is part of the job. Travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation is expected.
Communication: The ability to verbally communicate to exchange information is essential.
Vision: Must have vision within the normal range, with or without correction.
Hearing: Must have hearing within the normal range, with or without correction.
