The Tone:
This is a summer internship at The Marvin Group, located in Southern California near the Los Angeles International Airport in Inglewood. The Marvin Group functions as a leading defense contractor, specializing in the development and manufacturing of systems for military aerospace and vehicles across its entities: Marvin Engineering, Marvin Test Solutions, and Marvin Land Systems. This role offers an immersive experience, enabling interns to contribute to innovative projects and acquire fundamental tools crucial for a successful career in mechanical, manufacturing, and tooling engineering.

• Mission: To contribute to the entire engineering design cycle for military aerospace and vehicle systems, supporting integration, design, technical solutions, and manufacturing processes.
• Tech Stack: CATIA V5, SolidWorks, PDM, Adobe applications, MS Office suite, SmarTeam PDM, CAD.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Project Contribution: Contribute to innovative projects within the mechanical, manufacturing, and tooling engineering department.
• Design Cycle Exposure: Gain exposure to the full engineering design cycle, spanning concept development, integration, manufacturing, and testing.
• Engineering Support: Support integration, design, technical solutions, and manufacturing processes for products such as Rail Launchers, Bomb Racks, and Ground Vehicles.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with engineers, manufacturing personnel, technical management, and various functional groups to ensure timely deliverables for customers.
• Tool Application & Process Adherence: Train on and apply MEC-specific tools like CATIA V5, SolidWorks, and PDM, and assist with Engineering Change Request (ECR), Engineering Change Notice/Order (ECN/ECO) processes, and Drawing Release procedures.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Must be a Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Postgraduate student in Mechanical Engineering or a related field by the start of the summer internship. Possess a fundamental understanding of Manufacturing or Mechanical engineering principles, including structures, mechanisms, materials, and analysis.
• Experience: Proficiency in utilizing CAD (Computer-Aided Design) for modeling, drafting, and release processes. Demonstrated techniques in mechanical design, drafting, and modeling.
• Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Project).
• Bonus: A cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above. Prior engineering project experience or previous internship experience. Experience with CATIA V5 and SmarTeam PDM. Excellent written and oral communication skills. General knowledge of manufacturing processes (documentation, machining, welding, heat treatment, surface treatment, assembly). Experience with Model-Based Engineering (MBE) and 2D drawing creation using CAD models. Knowledge of Metal Galvanic Compatibility principles. Basic knowledge in Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) using the ASME Y14.5-LATEST standard. Demonstrated ability to be a team player, build consensus, manage change effectively, and collaborate across diverse teams.
