Job Description (Detailed)

This is an Internship position at Thermo Fisher Scientific, designed for undergraduate or Master’s students.

Work Schedule and Environmental Conditions:
• The standard work schedule is Monday to Friday.
• The role involves working in both a Laboratory Setting and an Office environment.

Internship Program Overview:
Interns at Thermo Fisher Scientific receive mentorship and leadership opportunities to support their career growth. The program aims to create pathways for future engagement, including returning as an intern, joining Leadership Development Programs, or securing a full-time role within the company.

Impact of the Role:
Interns are matched to projects based on their abilities and current business needs. All assigned projects hold significant strategic and/or operating importance to the business unit.

Summer Project Responsibilities May Include:
Innovation Project Execution: Assisting in the execution of prioritized innovation projects, specifically in areas such as media development, cell line engineering, and high-throughput screening.
Experimental Study Plan Drafting: Under the mentorship of a senior scientist, drafting experimental study plans that clearly define objectives, methods, and success criteria for projects.
Laboratory Experimentation: Conducting laboratory experiments by following established protocols and meticulously detailing procedures and data in accordance with good scientific practices.
Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyzing and interpreting experimental results, then summarizing findings in clear and concise reports.
Presentation of Results: Sharing interim and final project results with the scientific team and collaborators through slide decks and verbal updates.
Scientific Contribution: Actively contributing to scientific discussions in project and team meetings by asking insightful questions, offering insights, and incorporating feedback.
R&D Support: Supporting related Research & Development efforts by assisting in small-scale experiments or side projects led by other scientists.
Team Integration and Skill Development: Participating in weekly check-ins and site events to integrate with the broader team and to develop communication and collaboration skills.

Internship Schedule:
• The internship starts on either May 11th or June 15th, 2026.
• It will last for 10-12 weeks, with the exact duration dependent on student schedules.

Compensation & Relocation:
Hourly Rate: Undergraduate internships offer an hourly rate between $18.50 – $38.50, which is dependent upon the location of support and aligned with respective cost-of-living guidelines.
Relocation Stipend: A relocation stipend of $5,000 is offered if necessary.
Eligibility for Relocation Stipend: To be eligible for the relocation stipend, the student must be located 50+ miles away from the physical location of the internship.
Estimated Hourly Pay (New York): The estimated hourly pay range for an Intern II based in New York is $14.75–$55.00.

Qualifications (“How will you get here?”):
Education: Applicant must be an undergraduate, upperclassman, or Master’s student completing a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
Graduation Window: The expected graduation date must be between December 2026 and June 2027.
Experience: 0 years of work experience is required, though previous related internships are preferred.

• Energized by championing change, driven in achieving results, and savvy in navigating ambiguity.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills coupled with a high degree of emotional intelligence.

Legal Authorization to Work:
• Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require sponsorship (current or future) for employment visa status.
• Thermo Fisher Scientific does not offer employment in this position to holders of F-1, J-1, H-1, OPT, and CPT Visas for the purpose of acquiring practical experience.
