Community Engagement Intern, CMO | CALSTART
The Tone:
This is an internship at CALSTART, located in Los Angeles, CA (hybrid). CALSTART is a mission-driven industry organization dedicated to transportation decarbonization and clean air for all, developing and implementing large-scale, zero-emission transportation solutions. This role is crucial for executing community outreach plans that create real-life impact toward clean air and equitable access to clean transportation.

• Mission: Execute community outreach plans and support administrative tasks for clean mobility initiatives, impacting transportation decarbonization and clean air for all.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Outreach Execution: Assist in executing the South Bay Cities Council of Governments Local Travel Network Outreach Plan, including attending in-person events.
• Material Development: Draft outreach materials, including content for flyers, presentations, and community feedback tools.
• Event Coordination: Support coordination and logistics for public events, pop-ups, and engagement activities, such as a ride-n-drive event.
• Data Synthesis: Compile and synthesize community input and survey data into summary reports.
• Project Presentation: Develop a summary presentation or visual product capturing key outreach findings and highlights.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Undergraduate or graduate student with at least three years of accredited college/university level coursework completed, focusing on urban planning, transportation planning, environmental planning, public policy, community/regional planning, or a related field.
• Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and task management abilities. Ability to communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders and audiences. Strong analytical skills for collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing data. Strong interpersonal skills for collaborative work in internal and external teams with a proactive, solution-oriented approach. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a remote work environment.
• Bonus: Interest in equitable transportation solutions and public engagement. Experience with local government, mobility, or public outreach efforts. Familiarity with Southern California communities and demographics. Enthusiasm for working on real-world projects that influence public mobility policy.
