The New Jersey Judiciary comprises:

About the Job

This description outlines an internship position within the New Jersey Judiciary.

Compensation:
• The hourly rate for this position is $20.00.

Work Schedule & Commitment:
• The position is limited to a maximum of 35 hours per week, not to exceed 944 hours in a fiscal year.
• Interns are required to work a minimum of 10 hours per week.
• This position requires a 4-month commitment, with an opportunity to extend if eligible. Some divisions may prefer a commitment longer than 4 months.
• The Judiciary offers a strong opportunity for growth within the organization.

Work Location:
Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position.
Interns are not eligible for remote work.

Example of Duties:
The intern will perform a variety of tasks crucial to daily operations, including:
Assisting with phone communication: Answering phones, returning phone calls, and receiving and distributing voicemails.
Public and applicant contact: Contacting and following up with applicants and/or members of the public.
Project work: Performing special projects.
Research and analysis: Conducting research and analysis.
Computer-related tasks: Performing various computer-related work.
Data management: Collecting and entering data.
Customer service: Providing direct customer service.
Written communication: Drafting correspondences and memos.
Community engagement: Attending community planning meetings.
File management: Organizing and scanning of paper files, then uploading them into an electronic filing system.
General support: Assisting staff and performing other duties as directed.

Qualifications:
Education: Applicants must have thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university pursuing a degree.
Specific Requirement for Criminal Pre-Trial Services or Probation divisions: Applicants must have thirty credit hours from an accredited college pursuing a degree or certificate in the Behavioral or Social Sciences, or a related field.

Supplemental Information:
Physical Ability: For some specific positions, applicants must have the ability to perform work requiring climbing and prolonged standing, stretching, bending, and reaching. The selected candidate must be able to frequently lift and carry supplies weighing from 30 to 50 pounds and, occasionally, materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
Driver’s License: A driver’s license valid in New Jersey is only required if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. However, the selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.
Background Check: Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence, used only to inform the individual of findings and subsequent actions.
Residency Law (New Jersey First Act): In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), all persons newly hired by the Judiciary must establish and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey within one year. Exemptions may be requested from the Employee Residency Review Committee based on hardship or employer critical need.
