Intern – City Secretary’s Office | City of McKinney

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Location: In-person, McKinney, TX

• Team: Reports to the Division Manager, or designee.
• Mission: To contribute to the City Secretary’s Office by performing a range of duties, working on real projects, and culminating in a final project that benefits both the City of McKinney and the intern’s academic and professional development.
• Tech Stack: Word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, and database programs.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Research: Assist with researching local, state, and national programs, policies, and procedures to ensure the department meets or exceeds standards.
• Permit Review: Assist with the review of laws and procedures related to Gaming Machine Permits.
• Procedure Audit: Conduct departmental audits of agenda item creation and agenda posting procedures for public meetings, including City Council and Boards & Commissions.
• Project Development: Implement (as practical) and present a final project that contributes to the City of McKinney and supports academic and professional development.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program at an accredited college.
• Experience: Acceptable proficiency levels in the required minimum qualifications, which may include work-related experience.
• Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy; ability to plan and organize work effectively; proficiency in operating office equipment and computer programs (word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, database); resourcefulness, self-motivation, flexibility, and the ability to work independently.
