Position Summary:
The Intern will assist in day-to-day supervised activities related to the development of a construction project. The primary goal is to build foundational knowledge in various critical areas of construction, including construction management, business and project financial management, project safety protocols, subcontractor relationships, quality control, and project coordination and lifecycle. Where applicable, the assignment will support learning that can contribute to earning educational credits.

Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities:
The Intern/Co-Op will work under supervision, either at an active construction project site or within a department at a main office specializing in construction. Depending on business needs and location, the responsibilities include:
Support Project Team: Assisting with meeting coordination, material tracking, file management, document control, and progress reporting.
Adherence to Instructions: Comprehending and following project site signage and supervisor instructions.
Reporting & Learning: Providing progress reports to the supervisor and being receptive to learning about construction management.
Academic Application: Relating and applying knowledge acquired in an academic setting to work activities.
Professional Relationships: Maintaining professional relationships with employees, customers, clients, and subcontractors.
Participation: Participating in training, meetings, and orientation sessions.
Safety Compliance: Complying with safety protocols, following safety expectations, and wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Other Assigned Activities: Performing other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.

Potential Additional Activities (depending on assignment length and depth):
Project Start-up Support: Assisting with initial project activities and providing support to Project Engineers, Project Superintendents, and/or Project Managers.
Document Processing: Assisting with the collection and review of information and approvals for processing shop drawings, submittals, and Requests for Information (RFIs).
Contract Information: Assisting with the preparation and distribution of information for contract requirements to relevant parties.
Estimate Preparation: Assisting with the preparation of estimates for changes in work from subcontractors.
Site Observation: Attending project site visits to observe and document construction field activities.
Correspondence: Assisting with the preparation and conduct of correspondence and communication with Architects, Engineers, vendors, and subcontractors.
Schedule Tracking: Assisting with communication to trades and subcontractors to understand and track job schedules.
Safety Monitoring: Assisting with monitoring contractor compliance with Turner’s safety program.
Quantity Take-offs: Assisting with the preparation of quantity take-offs and studies for project items using traditional or computer-aided programs.
Proposal Assembly: Requesting and distributing subcontractor proposals to assemble proposals for the delivery system.
Project Close-out: Assisting with project close-out preparations.

Qualifications:
To be eligible for this internship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Education: Currently enrolled and actively pursuing a college or university accredited degree program, or enrolled in a Co-op program. Recommended majors include Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or other related fields of study. A minimum of 1 year of completed education or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required.
Age: Must be at least 18 years of age to work at a construction project site.
Career Interest: Possess a strong desire to work in construction management and learn about the construction industry.
Work Commitment: Commitment to work standard business hours and overtime as determined by the assignment.
Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including student leadership, volunteerism, or other community involvement.
Communication Skills: Professional and clear verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
Reading Comprehension: Ability to read and comprehend written information.
Accountability: Ability to assume personal and professional accountability for one’s own actions and activities.
Proactiveness: Proactive, curious, and eager to learn and participate.
Work Style: Able to work independently with direction and supervision, as well as in a team environment.
Organizational Skills: Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail.

Physical Demands:
The role requires various physical abilities to perform essential functions successfully:
Frequent Activities: Sitting; using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reaching with hands; talking; and hearing.
Regular Mobility: The employee is regularly required to be mobile.
Construction Site Navigation: Physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, use construction personnel hoists, climb ladders, and negotiate work areas under construction.
Visual Demands: Frequent viewing of a computer monitor and use of a computer keyboard. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Travel: Occasional travel, both short and long distances, via various conveyances. Work may be performed at on-site construction work sites and/or office locations.
Lifting: Regular lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment:
The work environment varies, representing typical construction industry settings:
Office Setting: The employee may regularly work in an office setting where the noise level is usually quiet to moderate.
Construction Work Site: The employee may occasionally work at a construction work site. In this environment, the employee is exposed to:
• Moving mechanical parts
• High precarious places
• Fumes or airborne particles
• Outside weather conditions
• Risk of electrical shock
• The noise level at construction sites is usually moderate to loud.
Safety Compliance: The employee is required to work in compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and applicable laws in all environments.
