Infrastructure Finance Intern | HDR

The Tone:
This is a part-time internship at HDR, located in Sacramento, CA. HDR is an employee-owned company, a 17,730-person organization dedicated to shaping resilient, sustainable, and forward-thinking communities through diverse service lines including Water, Architecture, and Transportation. This role is crucial in developing financial plans and identifying funding strategies for essential infrastructure projects, directly contributing to HDR’s mission of safeguarding public health, enhancing quality of life, and driving responsible growth around the world.

• Mission: Develop financial plans and identify funding for essential infrastructure projects across various sectors.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Planning: Assist in developing financial plans required for the State Revolving Fund Program.
• Grant Application Support: Help identify competitive projects for grant programs, including CA Climate Bonds/Proposition 4 and BUILD America 250 Act, and assist in writing grant applications.
• Funding Strategy Development: Research and evaluate potential funding sources and financing strategies to develop comprehensive financial strategies for water and transportation infrastructure projects.
• Data Analysis & Modeling: Support studies by analyzing financial, economic, and statistical data for infrastructure projects, including assisting in the development of financial models for utility rate studies.
• Research & Reporting: Conduct thorough research analyses, collect and process data, and write reports on economic, financial, and policy issues impacting infrastructure.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, with a Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Economics, Public Finance, Business, or a related field required.
• Experience: Demonstrated excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Skills: Strong attention to detail, robust problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills.
• Bonus: An interest in and potential experience with capital improvement plans, financial planning for water agencies, state departments of water, metropolitan planning organizations, and/or municipal governments, as well as the ability to support client interaction.
