Human Resources Intern | YMCA of the USA

The Tone:
This is an internship at the YMCA of Greater New York Association Office, located in New York, NY. The YMCA of the USA is a prominent organization, and its Association Office is responsible for the crucial human resources functions that support its mission and diverse workforce. This role offers an immersive experience, providing comprehensive exposure to core HR functions across talent acquisition, employee relations, benefits, compliance, and learning and development. It is designed to support daily HR operations while offering meaningful opportunities for professional growth and practical learning within a supportive environment.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Location: In-person, New York, NY
• Pay: $20 hourly
• Team: Employee Relations & Talent Acquisition Team, reporting to the Senior Executive, ER & Talent Acquisition
• Mission: To provide hands-on support for core human resources functions and gain practical experience across multiple HR disciplines, including talent acquisition, employee relations, benefits, compliance, and learning and development.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel), Cornerstone system

What You’ll Actually Do
• Recruitment Administration: Support the full-cycle recruitment process, including assisting with resume screening, candidate tracking, and interview scheduling, to ensure a smooth hiring workflow.
• System Documentation: Maintain accurate and well-organized recruitment and onboarding documentation within the Cornerstone system to ensure data integrity and compliance.
• Sourcing Strategy Support: Assist the Talent Acquisition team in the preparation and coordination of career fairs and collaborate on developing targeted sourcing strategies, especially for Aquatics and seasonal roles.
• Employee Relations Process Learning: Review the Employee Relations memo process to learn best practices for drafting clear, professional ER documentation, enhancing understanding of internal communications.
• ER Case Shadowing & Tracking: Shadow Employee Relations cases and investigations to understand how situations are assessed and gain hands-on experience navigating and updating the Employee Relations tracker for accurate case documentation.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Student currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in a related major, with a demonstrated strong record of academic achievement; a High School Diploma or equivalent is a fundamental prerequisite.
• Experience: Proven proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office applications, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel, for daily tasks and communications.
• Skills: Strong organizational capabilities complemented by exceptional attention to detail; excellent written and verbal communication skills with a consistently professional and courteous demeanor; ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities with minimal supervision; and a proven ability to handle sensitive information with utmost discretion and maintain confidentiality at all times.
