What We Look For In a HSPT Math Tutor

• Advanced Test Mastery: Deep knowledge of HSPT Mathematics section content including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, measurement, data interpretation, and quantitative reasoning for eighth-grade students seeking Catholic high school admission. Ability to explain number properties, fraction and decimal operations, basic algebraic equations, geometric formulas, and statistical concepts tested on the HSPT.
• Strategic Test-Taking & Problem-Solving: Skilled at teaching efficient mental math techniques, estimation strategies, and systematic problem-solving approaches for HSPT Math. Guides students through solving multi-step word problems, applying geometric formulas, interpreting data from tables and graphs, and managing time across sixty-four questions. Emphasizes identifying problem types quickly and selecting the most efficient solution method for each question.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with HSPT Mathematics content and common challenges such as time pressure, multi-step word problems, and geometry concepts not fully covered in eighth-grade curriculum. Adapts instruction using HSPT practice tests, targeted arithmetic drills, and geometry review materials to support eighth-grade students preparing for competitive Catholic high school admissions testing.
• Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
