Human Resources (HR) Internship | The Boring Company

The Tone:
This is an internship at The Boring Company. The company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, it is focused on developing technology to significantly increase tunneling speed and decrease costs, aiming for a factor of 10 or more. The ultimate goal of this work is to make Hyperloop adoption viable and enable rapid transit across densely populated regions. This paid HR Internship offers a crucial opportunity to explore many areas of human resources, including onboarding, employee relations, safety protocols, and payroll administration, directly supporting the mission of the dedicated team.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Location: In-person

• Mission: Support employees and HR operations across onboarding, safety, employee relations, and payroll functions.

What You’ll Actually Do
• HR Operations: Process Human Resources Information System (HRIS) transactions accurately and complete I-9 verification for new employees to ensure compliance.
• Onboarding: Facilitate and streamline the new-hire onboarding process, ensuring a smooth transition for incoming team members.
• Safety Management: Conduct daily safety walk audits, document findings, and collaborate with the team to urgently mitigate any identified issues.
• Employee Engagement: Plan and organize various events for employees to foster a positive and connected work environment.
• Employee Support: Review and respond to a wide range of HR matters, including inquiries related to benefits, compensation, training, payroll, and employee relations.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED and be currently enrolled in, or have recently graduated from, a 4-year Bachelor’s or Master’s program at an accredited college or university. Priority is extended to students who have completed at least their junior year of college, with particular preference given to graduate students.
• Experience: Demonstrated exposure to processing transactions within an HRIS and performing I-9 verifications. Experience assisting with new-hire onboarding processes. A foundational understanding of relevant legal guidelines and compliance requirements associated with employment.
• Skills: Acute attention to detail and strong multitasking abilities to manage diverse responsibilities effectively. Exceptional communication skills for interacting with internal and external customers, vendors, and management in both formal and informal settings. Highly organized with a strong sense of urgency to manage tasks and projects efficiently. Ability to work independently with minimal direction and to quickly and reasonably prioritize tasks.
• Bonus: An analytical mindset, capable of formulating strategic approaches and effectively presenting data insights.
